Maybe Your Bad Day was Actually a Good Day

I recently read a complaint to God on Facebook.    Could have been any of us and admittedly, I have said some of the things in this Facebook conversation with God, see below.  But after I read it, I hit the like button and I even shared the post. I have learned long ago to trust. I was reminded of one example that still makes me sweat.

My now high school Senior daughter was in a carpool with a driving senior when she was a freshman. They were family friends and safe drivers.   We live 32 miles away from high school and it all seems to work out fine. It was a random Tuesday and I was actually 2 ½ hours away in Tucson visiting my son at college.  We were walking campus and just finished a lunch filled with smiles and great conversation. I had noticed that my phone battery had died. It was strange. The phone wasn’t old, and I hadn’t really used it all that much.  It was frustrating but what was I going to do. I didn’t’ have my charger with me and well, I was having a good time with my son.

About 4pm, my son gets a call from my daughter.  She asks if I am with him and tells him that she is OK don’t worry.   Well you can imagine the “mommy ears” jump to attention! What does that mean “she is OK and don’t worry”?  Of course, you are OK it is a random Tuesday and you are on your way home from school with a safe driver in a safe car! Right?!  Within minutes a photo came across his text of a mangled, smashed and hardly recognizable white compact car. The car she is in carpool with or was in.  I felt a knot in the pit of my stomach. (It really felt like that! Has it happened to you? I know it gets said but it is so strange that it actually does feel that way) Yes Grace’s carpool was t-boned on that busy street by another car. The car was totaled. All occupants walked away without a scratch.    Even my son was horrified at the photo, which is hard to image considering the video games he has played.

Yes the photo came before the call. Many photos came from students and teachers before I got to talk to my daughter I later found out as they sat patiently on my nonfunctioning phone.  The horror of seeing that car still brings a cloud of sadness. But thankfully, my perfectly normal healthy phone battery stopped working that day. And I know it stopped working so I was able to talk to my daughter and hear her voice before I saw the car.  I know that there were angels around those four girls and the driver of the other car and most certainly around me that day. So, while I did want my phone working, more importantly I needed the message to come in when it did. And I received what I needed when I needed it. Sometimes we need to be reminded that we always get what we need, but not necessarily what we might want.  And that angels and prayers are constantly protecting us. So, go about your day, knowing you are protected and make it the best one you need!

Me: God can I ask u a question?

God: Sure

Me: Promise u won’t get mad?

God: I promise

Me: Why did u let so much stuff happen to me today?

God: What do u mean?

Me: Well to begin, I woke up late..

God: Yes..

Me: My car took forever to start..

God: Okay..

Me: at lunch they made my sandwich wrong & I had to wait..

God: Hmmmm…

Me: On the way home, my phone went DEAD, just as I picked up a call…

God: All right..

Me: And on top of it all off, when I got home, I just want to soak my feet in my new foot massager & relax. BUT… it wouldn’t work!!! Nothing went right today!

Why did you do let all that happen to me?

God: Let me see, to begin… the Death Angel was at your bed.. I had to send in another Angel to battle him for your life. I let you sleep through that.

Me (humbled): OH

GOD: I didn’t let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that would have hit you if you were on the road.

Me (ashamed)…

God: The first person who made your sandwich today was sick & I didn’t want you to catch what they have, I knew you couldn’t afford to miss work.

Me (embarrassed):Ok

God: Your phone went dead bcuz the person that was calling was going to give false witness about what you said on that call, I didn’t even let you talk to them so you would be covered.

Me (softly): I see God..

God: Oh and that foot massager, it had a shortage that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn’t think you wanted to be in the dark.

Me: I’m sorry God

God: Don’t be sorry, just learn to trust me…..in all things, the good & the bad.

Me: I will trust you

God: And don’t doubt that my plan for your day is always better than your plan.

Me: I won’t God. And let me just tell you God, thank you for everything today.

God: You’re welcome child. It was just another day being your God and I love looking after my children…
